Louisa May Alcott ; November 29, 1832 – March 6, 1888) was an American novelist and poet best known as the author of the novel Little Women (1868) and its sequels Little Men (1871) and Jo's Boys (1886). Raised by her transcendentalist parents, Abigail May and Amos Bronson Alcott in New England, she grew up among many of the well-known intellectuals of the day such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Henry David Thoreau. Nevertheless, her family suffered severe financial difficulties and Alcott worked to help support the family from an early age. She began to receive critical success for her writing in the 1860s. Early in her career, she sometimes used the pen name A. M. Barnard and under it wrote novels for young adults. Published in 1868, Little Women is set in the Alcott family home, Orchard House, in Concord, Massachusetts and is loosely based on Alcott's childhood experiences with her three sisters. The novel was very well received and is still a popular children's novel today, filmed several times. Alcott was an abolitionist and a feminist and remained unmarried throughout her life. She died in Boston on March 6, 1888. Henry James called her The novelist of children... the Thackeray, the Trollope, of the nursery and the schoolroom.

This is a series of vignettes rather than a coherent group of stories.
They read like stories that may have been published as individual stories in magazines or journals. I have not researched that though.

These could be a nice book to read with a child who needs to read aloud and there are some very good life lessons included.
I found this a good book to read if I had trouble settling in for sleep at night - not too engaging overall, but they are not so long as to make it a surprise all-night reading session either.

SpinningWheel Stories Louisa May Alcott 9781523432158 Books Reviews

This little book of stories is a marvelous trip to the past. There are some dated concepts by today's standards, so read this with the time it was written in mind.
I really didn't have great expectations for this book but was pleasantly surprised. It's a nice easy read with a heart warming storyline.
I chose the book because of the author's name and reputation. Its short stories were rather simplistic, but most were interesting and a couple even excellent. Would be a good book to read to children or have them read.
This is a collection of gentle and simplistic short tales. I would count this among her lesser works.
these stories give us a picture of family life in that time period. in this book, the focus was on the children. but I would not
classify it as strictly a children's book. I am long past my childhood and I enjoyed this book.
Excellent ! Highly recommend seller and will buy again. Shipped fast and great. No complaints !
I quickly found myself drawn into the story, transported back in time to sit with the children and listen to Granny's stories in that cozy sitting room. I strongly recommend this book to all who enjoy reading stories to children.
